End of Home

From RZWiki
(Redirected from The End Of Home)

"End of Home" is the fourth track on The Residents' Commercial Album, released by Ralph Records in October 1980. The song was recorded between 1979 and 1980, and, alike all other songs from the Commercial Album, is exactly 60 seconds in length. The song was first previewed on Ralph Records' Buy or Die 1980½ sampler, along with "Easter Woman" and "Amber".

The song has so far never been performed live. Despite this, in 2020, The Cryptic Corporation asked The Residents to curate a list of their favorite songs from their back catalog for a Spotify playlist titled "Residents' Personal Favorites"; "End of Home" was one of 40 to be selected.

History

The song has been covered on Alieno de Bootes' fan project Unconventional Residents II, released on Klanggalerie via Hardy Fox's TOOK label.

An RDX mix of the song, heard on the pREServed LP edition of Commercial Album, emphasizes a saxophone part only briefly heard in the original mix. A very early piano sketch of the song is heard on the track "Commercial Composition" from the Cherry Red release Leftovers (1970-1988).

Music videos

An animated short film was produced by French video artist Stéphane Ricard for the Commercial DVD in 2004.

The Residents also produced a new video, one of ten, for the same project.

Lyrics

Darkness fell upon the garden
As I sadly sat alone Dreaming
of the end of summer
And again the end of home
Our love was like a flowing river
Deeper still than what it seemed
It consumed my waking hours
Creeping deep into my dreams[1]
