Handful of Desire

From RZWiki
(Redirected from Handful Of Desire)

"Handful of Desire" is the twenty-eighth track on The Residents' Commercial Album, released by Ralph Records in October 1980. Like all other songs in the album, it is exactly one minute long. It is one of The Residents' more sexually-charged songs, its lyrics describing the experience of masturbation.

History

The song's lyrics were slightly expanded for the song "Or Maybe a Marine" from the Our Finest Flowers album in 1992.

This song has never so far been performed live, although it was considered for the Wonder of Weird show in 2012 but eventually scrapped. A demo of this new arrangement can be heard on the WOW Demos 1 release; it was meant to be expanded with a monologue from the Tweedles track "Mark of the Male", with which this song shares a masturbation theme.

Music videos

A short video for the song was created by fan Kar Aermann for the Commercial DVD in 2004.

The Residents had also created a very sexually-charged video for the song, one of ten new videos created by the group for the Commercial DVD.

Lyrics

Sinews crackled in the heat of noonday's raptured thrill;
A moisture-laden, syncopated, automated thrill;
A handful of desirous needs that's much too soon fulfilled.[1]
