In 1959 The Residents were not yet formed, but the people who eventually formed the group were in their early teens.

March

• 10th: Elvis releases his cover of A Fool Such as I, which The Residents would cover on their King & Eye album.

June

• 24th: The film adaption of Porgy and Bess, is released. It features Loulie Jean Norman covering Summertime. Due to the popularity of the film, and this version of the song, its possible that The Residents had heard and seen it.

July

• 20th: Plan 9 From Outer Space premieres. Future members of The Residents likely saw it, as it is noted in the band's 1988 calendar.

August

• Future members of The Residents meet Homer Flynn in their freshman year of high school. They may have also met high school senior Palmer Eiland, who would go on to collaborate with them in the late 1960s and 1970s.
