One From the Heart - HARDY FOX

Here’s a new idea. How about writing a love song?
Oh, you say it’s been done, maybe overdone. So why would I be so foolish as to tackle such a subject so fraught with cliches and meaningless sentiment.
Probably because I am stupid. But also because I have been led around by love in some form for my entire life. That isn’t really a complaint. Seriously, there is isn’t much in the world that is as interesting as love and its many related variations: attraction, obsession, sexual fantasies, broken hearts. It is the fuel that many of our lives run on.
The question remains. Why join the hoard of people trying to say something new about love? I suppose that the emotional state is, more or less, unique to each person. Each of us has our approach to dealing with and surviving the chemical and hormonally driven state of mind.
For me, I am still able to love as an older gentleman, but the intensity of love always takes me back to my youth when all was new and strange. Each element that drove sexual exploits had to be explored, considered and digested. Now older, I am able to gain some objectivity to set memories to music.
This album is a glimpse into my younger self. Well truthfully, probably not. It is likely yet another fantasy of an aging man, still led around by his dick.

I fell in love with a leg today.

I wanted to make the first move but he didn’t let me.

I am only talking to you because you are beautiful.

Why do I want to hold your broken hurt?
- A Song About You
- I like to watch as these walls start to burn.
- Take my hand
- And ask that hand to turn
- Your Jesus into God
- I hold your fingers to the flame.
- You’ll see your name
- Written in flashing lights.
- I’ll make make your heart stop,
- For a moment,
- Then I breath life back into you.
- You are someone worth lying for.
- I'm standing on the edge, trying not to fall,
- But I wake with my head on your chest.
- I try to talk and instead,
- I sing a song about you.
- And I’ve lost the melody.
- And I feel like I’m screaming
- Every word that I know that implies love,
- But I’m too scared to say that word.

I grew up in Texas but came to San Francisco to partake in the great adventure that became known as "the hippies." Of course that was just a media name. What really happened was middle class baby boomers got tired of being shipped to Vietnam for no apparently good reason. The general consensus became that the government was fucking us over, that society had let us down, that our parents had lied even about Santa Claus. There was nothing to do but assume that everything we had ever been taught was potentially a lie. We had to re invent ourselves to relearn what living meant to each of us. Life is not a generic concept. Each person is unique.
Even the arts were suspect. Pop music was dreary and needed a complete overhaul.
San Francisco was a hotbed of creativity. My friends and I formed an art ensemble called The Residents with a somewhat cynical eye to the entire entertainment world with its decadent star system. Things went very well for The Residents.
After some 40-odd years, after reaching the golden age of 70, I retired from that band. That also meant I was no longer bound by those philosophies. Anything became possible again just like when I first started with The Residents.
While too old to build a new recording career, I do have an opportunity to try novel ideas as well as to entertain myself and a few of my closest friends. That likely include you since you are reading this.
