"Maggot Remembers" is the third track from Act 1 of The Residents' 2025 "modern opera" / concept album Doctor Dark. Like the rest of Act 1, it is styled after heavy metal music; this track expounds on Maggot's emotionally troubled childhood.
An early segment of the track, recorded in 2022, was previewed on a Cherry Red mailing list newsletter; an expanded later demo (titled "Gun Crazy" — a likely though unconfirmed reference to the 1950 crime film of the same name) was then released on the Doctor Dark's Demos album, exclusive to streaming services.
Libretto
Maggot escapes into even more metal music and recalls feelings from her early childhood with Mark. Idealizing their youth in a rare moment of vulnerability, Maggot reveals the darkness and pain of her childhood.
