Wallpaper is a novella by Hardy Fox, first released as an audiobook read by Joey R with music by Fox (originally credited to Fox's Charles Bobuck persona).

An adaptation of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's 1892 short story "The Yellow Wallpaper", it was first released via Fox's website on March 15th 2017, followed by an audiobook which followed on April 15th.

The audiobook was reissued on CD by Klanggalerie on January 12th 2023, credited to Fox and Joey R.

History

In June 2016, Hardy Fox, who was still publicly anonymous in his contributions to The Residents, published his first work under his own name The Swords of Slidell, an ebook adaption of The Swords by Robert Aickman, with a soundtrack credited to Charles Bobuck.

In March 2017, a page was added to Fox's website alluding to plans for further adaptations, with the next titled Wallpaper, being an adaptation of the 1892 short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the adaptation would take the form of an audio book with a soundtrack, once again, credited to Charles Bobuck.[1]

The audiobook was officially released on April 15th, 2017, and it was announced in the Hacienda Bridge newsletter released that same day. The book was read by Joey R.

Each of the 10 audio tracks were accompanied by their own page featuring a transcription and animated gif; digital bootlegs began to circulate as the MP3s were easy to extract from the website's HTML code.

Legacy

The original Wallpaper webpage was removed circa June of 2020, two years after Fox's death. In November of 2022, Austrian record label Klanggalerie announced that they would be releasing the audio book as a CD, credited to Hardy Fox and Joey R[2] - by December the Joey R main credit was removed, although he is still featured in the credits.[3] The CD was released on January 12th, 2023.[4]
