"THE RESIDENTS EXPOSED!" (subtitled "(rare video of their early private lives)") is the title ascribed to a five minute video containing excerpts from a Super-8 home movie by former KBOO-FM disc jockey William Reinhardt, filmed in early 1976 during a visit to The Residents' home and recording/art studio on Sycamore Street in San Francisco. It was posted on YouTube on July 21st 2008 by "rossarooney", apparently an ex-girlfriend of Reinhardt's who had inherited the film footage from him during their relationship.[1]

Despite the (somewhat inflammatory) title, the video is much more revealing of The Residents' housemates (and future members of The Cryptic Corporation) Jay Clem and Homer Flynn than it is of The Residents themselves, although the group's founding co-composer and engineer Hardy Fox is briefly seen. Nevertheless, the video's release caused instant disgruntlement among the Residents fandom, with "rossarooney" claiming to have received "some hate mail" and "personal threats" for the seemingly revealing nature of the footage.[2][3][4]

"rossarooney" claimed to have further home movie material from this time,[4] but more than a decade later it remains unseen. The original video has remained on YouTube in the years since, alongside a second video, "THE RESIDENTS REVEALED!", containing a slideshow of photographs taken by Reinhardt during various visits to Sycamore Street between 1974 and 1976. To date, The Cryptic Corporation is not known to have publicly acknowledged the existence of either video.

Description

"Super-8 film offers a rare historical peek into the Residents private lives. Home movie (18 Sycamore St. building) shows where they lived and worked on the 1st three albums and the video project 'Vileness Fats'.

This is only partial footage from the original film (more to come later). Shortly after this 'home movie' they started the Cryptic Corp. and moved to Grove Street. Look closely and you will see details, objects and artifacts used in their myth-making (sort of like the 'Bunny Boy' promo). Of particular interest was the printing and assembly of 1000 record covers for 'Third Reich & Roll'"
