Teddy
Teddy is a song by The Residents, recorded for their 1993 EP, Prelude To The Teds.
Background
The song is about Teddy, the leader of the hate group known as The Flaming Shield, and is primarily about his sexual and demanding relationship with Theodore, his giant lover. The song is told from the perspective of Theodore, as he tells of Teddy's demands.
It was released in 1993 on The Prelude To The Ted's EP, and was intended to tie in with a film co-directed by David Lynch, that was never finished.
In 2006 it was RMX'd and released as a digital single, this single eventually came out on the 2009 album RMX.
The song was performed live for the first time in 2010, at the Moravian Meeting Show, this version adds an extra minute to the total length of the song.
It was performed again 3 years later in the Wonder of Weird tour. The show represents Randy's lust, he introduces the song like such
"This song is about a demented midget, involved in a co-dependent relationship with a giant, and they are into rough sex"
Two more versions of the song have been released, the first in 2016, recorded by Charles Bobuck for his Bobuck Plays The Residents album.
The latest version is titled 'Tribal Teddy', and was recorded by Phillip Stranger for inclusion in the album I Am A Resident!
In 2019 Molly Harvey & Ostrich Von Nipple, covered the song for Klanggalerie's Hardy Fox tribute album, The Godfather Of Odd.
Lyrics
Touch Me! Touch Me! Touch Me! Touch Me!
Touch the tongue of Tiny Teddy Touch it and you'll see The side of Teddy that is ready To bite you, tenderly.
Touch Me! Touch Me! Touch Me! Touch Me!
Touch Me! Touch Me! Touch Me! Please, Touch Me...
No one knows that part of Teddy No one knows but me. And I know what Teddy said, The night he was set free
Touch Me! Free to walk alone Touch Me! Free to wonder why? Touch Me! Free to feel the emptiness... Touch Me! That god does not deny
Teddy was a simple soul That peed when he should not He didn't need much money But he needed me A lot. Touch Me..
He needed me to cry Touch Me He needed me to crawl Touch me He needed me to touch his tongue Touch Me Or not touch him at all Touch Me Occasionally... Touch Me He needed me Touch Me To Cut Him Touch Me When he called Touch Me Touch Me Touch Me... Touch Me... Touch Me
