Notes From Ralph
'I'm going to be doing another gig on December the 3rd, with a few of my Cryptic Stable-mates as it were and I'll probably be doing The Vestal Virgins thing again, with various help from various other people. But it's not the thing that I'll be going on the road with next year so it'll probably be the last opportunity to catch that gig as it is. [...] I'd say not [to expect The Residents to appear], they probably only do one thing a year.'
- Snakefinger, Radio Interview, 1979
The original shows I did, I did with tape, backup music and actresses, and they were considered artsy and whatever those people thought they were. But after the second time I found it very boring to do and after all I'm here to have fun and enjoy myself, which is why I stopped playing all the average bozoid rock type music that you hear around nowadays, because I like to enjoy myself and that wasn't very enjoyable to me. Likewise with the tape performances, I need emotions and feelings and things that react. It's a guaranteed performance every time, but what a pain in the ass. The tapes were everything but guitar and vocals, and if I really got into it I would have to hold back to play with the tape.
