Ozark is a compilation album by The Residents, released July 10th 2011 via the group's official website. The album collects several Bunny Boy-related outtakes; the majority of which were previously released on the Arkansas album and Ozan EP.
An abridged twelve-track version of the album, titled The Best of Ozark (or alternatively The Beast of Ozark) was released in late 2011, also through The Residents' website. It was later reissued digitally via The Residents' official Bandcamp page in 2014.
In 2021, the album was released on vinyl by Secret Records; this was the album's first (and to date) only release on physical media.
History
Background
In 2008, The Residents unveiled their Bunny Boy multimedia project, which ultimately comprising of a web series, three studio albums, a live show, and a comic. A follow up album was worked on between January and May of 2009, before being abandoned in favour of their Talking Light project.
To perhaps signify the end of the project, The Residents released Arkansas, in November of 2009; an album representing an earlier form of The Bunny Boy album, with seven tracks removed from the final version. The album was available exclusively through the Ralph America mail-order service, and was a limited release.
Three months later, to perhaps truly put the nail in the bunny-shaped coffin, The Residents released Ozan, a digital EP available to those who attended the live performances of Talking Light, featuring 25 minutes of material The Residents had written for The Bunny Boy follow-up album.
Release
In 2011, The Residents combined Arkansas and Ozan into a limited edition CD-R, Ozark, available to purchase through their website. The compilation completely re-sequences the material in order to give the impression of a coherent product, rather than two separate releases. It also features five previously unreleased tracks; alternate mixes of "Golden Guy" and "I'm Not Crazy", as well as "More Rain", "Rendered Fat", an extended version of "Save The World", and two tracks from the outtakes compilation Ten Little Piggies. The alternate mix of "I'm Not Crazy" later formed the foundation of "Semolina" from The Residents' Talking Light.
In late 2011 (some time between Ozark on July 10th and Coochie Brake on October 15th), The Residents released The Best of Ozark via their official website, as an abridged twelve-track version of the album which was intended for fans to burn to CD-R. This release was given the catalogue number RZ1108.
Reissues
In 2014, The Best of Ozark (under the alternative title The Beast of Ozark) was reissued digitally via The Residents' official Bandcamp page.
On the album's 10th anniversary, Secret Records re-issued Ozark as a 2xLP vinyl.
