"Hitler Was a Vegetarian" is the second half of The Residents' third album, The Third Reich 'n Roll, released on Ralph Records in 1976. Like the album's A-side "Swastikas on Parade", "Hitler Was a Vegetarian" is a side-long suite composed of various deconstructed cover versions of popular music, mostly bubblegum pop from the 1960s.
It has been revealed that artist Madlib is a big fan of The Residents. Madlib is most well known for helping to produce the highly respected rap album "Madvillainy" by "MF DOOM". To show his respect for The Residents, Madlib has sampled them a number of times in his career, including this song. The In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida portion can be heard on "Fukwitus".[1]
