"Duck Sauce" is a song by The Residents, first released to streaming services on September 27th 2024 as a digital single by Cherry Red Records, MVD Audio and New Ralph Too. It is the opening track from the group's "election day souvenir" EP, Dookietown, released on 10" vinyl on November 1st.
Following the release of the song to streaming services, on October 1st 2024 Psychofon Records released an extremely limited edition "object d'art" featuring an exclusive remix of the song by composer Ego Plum, titled "Duck Sauce Refried".[1]
The song was first performed live during the group's performance at Exotikon Exotica and Tiki Festival in San Francisco on June 7th 2025. A music video for the song premiered on the streaming platform Night Flight Plus on September 5th 2025, as part of a Residents "video profile".
Release
Digital single
On September 27th 2024, "Duck Sauce" was released to streaming services as a digital single (labelled "Duck Sauce [Single]" on Spotify and "Duck Sauce - Single" on Apple Music) by Cherry Red Records, MVD Audio and New Ralph Too, as part of the promotion of the forthcoming release of the Dookietown EP.
The digital single features only "Duck Sauce" with no additional tracks. The cover art accompanying the digital single is the same as the EP. The release of the single was promoted with two short videos posted to social media featuring excerpts of the song accompanied by AI-generated videos of clowns.
Ego Plum remix
On October 1st 2024, Psychofon Records released a special "Record Object d'Art", in a limited edition of only twenty-five copies, featuring "Duck Sauce Refried", an exclusive remix of "Duck Sauce" by composer Ego Plum.[1]
The song is pressed on a 10" dubplate, which is permanently fixed to a mini-USB record player, housed inside a specially made "black magnet box". The twenty-five owners of this item were encouraged by Psychofon to distribute their digital rips of the exclusive remix freely online for all fans and collectors to enjoy.[1]
Music video
A music video for the song premiered on the Night Flight Plus on September 5th 2025 during a weekend-long Residents "takeover" of the streaming platform, as part of a "video profile" (also featuring videos for "Dead Already", "The Skeleton at the Bottom of the Sea" and "The Tale of Two Tupilaqs").
The "Duck Sauce" music video consists entirely of animation created with generative AI, with imagery similar to the cover art of the Dookietown EP. These visuals had previously featured as the video backdrop for The Residents' performance of the song at the Exotikon Exotica and Tiki Festival in Los Angeles on June 7th 2025.
