Dixie is a fictional character by avant-garde group The Residents, first appearing in the 1995 CD-ROM project Bad Day on the Midway. She is voiced by Molly Harvey.

Background

Dixie first appears in the Kill-A-Commie Shooting Gallery, introducing herself to Timmy. Based on her stereotypical cowgirl attire, Timmy assumes that she's from Texas, where Timmy reveals he has never been to, but always wanted to visit. She reveals that she's a fan of country and western music, and not actually from Texas. Throughout most of the game, she is taking care of the "Coma Man", a man whose face is disfigured by acid and wrapped in gauze lying on the bed in the back room of the shooting gallery marked "Private". Events that took place prior to the game lead other Midway residents to believe that the Coma Man is Jocko, and Ike, the owner of the Midway was killed in an "accident" that took place in his workshop while the two men were completing Ike's next big attraction: The Three-Headed Abominable Snowman exhibit. However, Dixie believes that the Coma Man is in fact, Ike, and it is later revealed at the end of the game no matter which ending the player achieves.

Life Story

If Timmy enters the room, Dixie will divulge her life story to him (animated by Ronald M. Davis), about the three men who have had the most influence on her: her father, her first boyfriend, Carlos, and Ike. Her father would tell her stories of a magic singing cowgirl who would conquer evildoers by singing. It is heavily implied that he was employed as a truck driver and an alcoholic, although never suggested that he drank on the job. In the Private room, there is a box of his poems that Dixie has kept, and she reveals her hope is to turn them into hit country and western songs. She then proceeds to tell Timmy about her first boyfriend, Carlos, whom she met at a jazz club. He bought Dixie a guitar, although never tuned it, and she reveals she was elated to find out that she was pregnant. But one night, Carlos snuck out, knocking over Dixie's guitar, and as she chased after him, she tripped down the stairs, resulting in a miscarriage. She moved back in with her mother who "never had liked Carlos too much." After an indeterminate amount of time passes, she meets Ike at the Heineyland Golf Course, and they marry shortly after. As the story concludes, she tells Timmy that Ike is now suffering from "a real bad coma", and doesn't know how to handle the situation
