Brumalia is a fictional winter solstice festival, analogous to the Twelve Days of Christmas, which was created and first celebrated by The Residents in December 2003 and January 2004 with the release of The 12 Days of Brumalia, a series of free MP3 downloads released daily to their (then new) official news blog.
The holiday was inspired by the ancient Roman solstice festival of the same name, which was celebrated annually between November 24th to December 24th until at least the 11th century. The Residents' Brumalia is a 12 day holiday beginning December 24th (or Christmas Eve) and ending after 12 days with a "Feast of Epiphany" on January 5th.
