Against The Grain
Against The Grain is a compilation album by Snakefinger, spanning his (then) entire solo career. A majority of the tracks featured are co-written and co-produced by The Residents.
Background
This compilation was released in late 1983 in the aftermath of The Mole Show, when Ralph Records was in intense financial troubles. This record could be seen as a cost-efficient attempt to make some money. This album notably features the debut of Leigh Barbier, who contributes the albums artwork. She would continue to create artwork for The Residents until their 2020 God In Three Persons live show.
The album collects material from Snakefinger's first three albums, as well as the A-Side from his debut single, The Spot. The Residents' contributions, which make up the majority of the album, were recorded between May 1978 and September 1980..
The song, "I Love You Too Much To Respect You" was written in April of 1982,[1] shortly after the release of Manual of Errors, which was Snakefinger's last album of original material before Night of Desirable Objects, released in 1986.
