2004 was largely dedicated to The Commercial DVD, their mutli-album RMX project, and Animal Lover, which was still in it's earliest stages. The Residents only performed live once this year, at a Gamelan Sekar Jaya show.

March

  • 15th: The Commercial DVD is announced alongside a campaign for fans to submit reels for potential to have their shorts included in the film.
  • 23rd: The King & Eye:RMX is released worldwide[5] and WB:RMX is released in Europe.[6]

April

  • The Feast of Epiphany album project, now titled Feast of Manias, is developed further after Carla Fabrizio and Nolan Cook add their contributions to the material. The album would soon be retitled as Box of Rocks (allegedly the title used as basis for the album artwork) and later once more as Animal Lover.

May

  • 10th: The Residents are signed to Mute Records, a label they would remain with for the next four years.[7]

June

  • 21st: The misprinted first pressing of 12 Days of Brumalia are sent out to pre-ordering customers.[8]

  • 6th: Animal Lover is announced, with a February 14th 2005 release date.

  • Live performance for Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK)
    • Half an hour of previously unrleased footage of a Demons Dance Alone performance done in Oslo the previous year was shown during an episode of Lydverket. [15]
